50th Annual Grammy Awards & 2nd Annual BMI “How I Wrote that Song” Panel.. Sun. Feb. 17th, 08′
February 17, 2008
Hey everyone! It’s been a little while since my last blog. I know it’s no excuse but I’ve just been sooooooooooooooooo busy!
February 9th, a day before the Grammy’s, I was able to attend the “HOW I WROTE THAT SONG” panel presented by BMI and The Los Angeles Times. This was an amazing experience. I was able to listen to some of the greatest and most respected producers/song writers of today. These panelists included Rodney Jerkins (The Boy Is Mine performed by Brandy and Monica, You Rock My World performed by Michael Jackson), Anthony Hamilton (Charlene), and Ben Moody (My Immortal performed by Evanescence, Because Of You performed by Kelly Clarkson). A highlight of this event was definitely hearing Anthony Hamilton perform the song Charlene live. Without a doubt, he embodies true soul music. I also got to hear first hand how these songwriters come up with their concepts and creativity. Some songs take five minutes and others take five years! It was completely encouraging to know that I am not the only one who suffers from writers block from time to time. It was both touching and bittersweet to hear the stories of struggle and sacrifice that many of these writers/artists went through to get to where they are. I definitely walked away knowing that everything comes at a price. The greater the sacrifice, the greater the reward!
On another note, my Sunday evening (February 10th) was spent watching the Pre-Grammy show followed by the 50th Annual Grammy Awards. How exciting was that! Everyone looked amazing coming down the red carpet. Some of my favorite moments that evening included the Rhianna/Tyme performance, Tina Turner and Beyonce sharing the stage together, and the Beatles tribute performed to the song Let It Be. I can’t lie… I was so happy to see that Alicia Keys won for best R&B vocal. And to Rhianna… you killed it! All in all, it was an incredible night and I look forward to seeing them all very soon.
I get a rush knowing that one day in the near future I will get to grace that very Grammy stage with many of my own idols, peers, and fans watching.
Well, that about sums it up. I’ll talk to you guys soon, I promise!
